Flowerchild Family Arts & Music Festival is making its debut at Orange County Great Park on September 17th, 2017!

The Flowerchild Family Arts & Music Festival, presented by Munchkin, Focuses on pregnancy and family life, blending music, art, and all-ages entertainment and activities. Laguna Playhouse announced their first show in their 2017-2018, and it’s a fun one! They’re kicking off their 97th season with the effervescent musical, HAIRSPRAY!

Hairspray is based off of the book by Thomas Meehan and Mark O’Donnell, featuring music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, musical direction by Michael Ferrara and directed and choreographed by Paula Hammons Sloan.

“We are opening our season with just the perfect show for a Laguna Beach Summer,” commented Laguna Playhouse Executive Director Ellen Richard.

It’s 1962 and Hairspray’s big, bold heroine Tracy Turnblad twists, ponys and mashed potatoes her way to Baltimore stardom, while fighting for integration on a local TV dance show. Winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book, Hairspray knocks your bobby socks off with spectacular songs, energetic dancing, and an uplifting story for all ages!    

“We welcome Paula Hammons Sloan and the ‘nicest kids in town’ back to our stage for this nostalgic musical confection. Talent abounds on our stage this Summer!” added Artistic Director Ann E. Wareham.

Hairspray opens on Sunday, July 9 at 5:30pm and will run through Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach.

This Saturday, the Queen Mary will host the ShipKicker Country Music Festival for the third time. It will be held at the Waterfront Events Park on Saturday, July 1st starting at 1 PM.

The Summer Movie Express is Back at Kaleidoscope in Mission Viejo!

Most South County schools are out for the summer, and many parents are looking for ways to keep their kids busy, stay cool, and save money. Thankfully, the annual Summer Movie Express at Kaleidoscope’s Edwards Stadium 10 in Mission Viejo is back!

The summer-long series features second-run family movies, rated G or PG, for only $1 admission per person. Movies are shown on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10am from June 20 through August 16.

On June 3rd and 4th, the Aquarium of the Pacific will be celebrating its 14th Annual Pacific Islander Festival. If you’ve never attended one of these celebrations, you must! It’s a fun way to learn about the rich and diverse cultures of the Pacific Islands while hanging out with some of your favorite ocean creatures!

Along with all of the usual experiences that the Aquarium of the Pacific offers, the festival will include traditional craft demonstrations, educational programs, and an ocean of entertainment, including music and dance performances such as hula and Tahitian drumming. Various cultures including Hawaiian, Tahitian, Samoan, Fijian, Tongan, Chamoru, Marshallese, Kiribati, and Maori will be featured in the festival.
